Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System and Transportation of Dangerous Goods Training

Handling Hazardous Materials - Online WHMIS Training

Dangerous goods are handled in many workplaces and transported across the country on a daily basis by rail, air and road, constantly coming into contact with industry workers and the general public. To protect these individuals from the hazards associated with the transport of flammable, toxic, explosive, or corrosive substances, TDG and WHMIS were put in place.

Comprehensive System for Providing Health and Safety Information

The WHMIS and the TDG Act and Regulations

The Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System and the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act and Regulations were put into effect to ensure that workers had the necessary training to correctly handle a variety of hazardous goods. TDG training teaches workers how to safely handle and transport dangerous goods. With the proper education on safe transportation and handling practices, everyone’s safety is ensured during the transportation of dangerous goods.

The TDG Training Course

Transportation of Dangerous Goods training courses will cover the TDG symbols and the classifications of dangerous goods. TDG training also covers the requirements for labelling and placards, and the requirements for dangerous goods packaging and vessels. Standard TDG training courses will also cover the documentation requirements for the transport of dangerous goods and the proper response in the event of an accidental release of a dangerous good.

WHMIS Act and Regulations Training

The Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System Act and Regulations state that training is also required for individuals that handle dangerous goods in the workplace. This training will educate individuals on the proper hazard identification and product classification, as well as the standard symbols used in the WHMIS system. WHMIS training also teaches individuals the proper way to read a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) and utilize the information contained in the datasheet. During this training, students will also learn about their individual responsibilities when they are handling or using dangerous goods. WHMIS training will also provide a comprehensive education on the legislation that affects WHMIS and how it affects both workers and employers.

Who need WHMIS and TDG Training

All workers that handle and/or transport dangerous goods are required to have the proper Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) and Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) training. This training is necessary to protect the health and safety of the general public, those involved in the handling of the goods, and those receiving the goods. When this training is correctly applied all those involved in or affected by the transportation or handling of dangerous are protected.
